Marilee Chinnici-Zuercher: A Lifetime of Public Service

Since 1991, Marilee Chinnici-Zuercher has directed the operations and policy management for HandsOn Central Ohio. HandsOn Central Ohio is a nonprofit organization dedicated to inspiring, equipping and mobilizing people to take action that change themselves and the world. HandsOn Central Ohio benefits from her lifelong dedication to civic engagement at all levels: locally, nationally and internationally.

Her expertise has kept her active around the globe through the International Association for Volunteer Efforts. During the past 15 years she has conducted volunteer and nonprofit organizational trainings in more than a dozen countries, including South Africa, Romania, Japan, Cyprus, Slovenia, Spain, Ukraine, China, Chile, Canada, Korea and the United States.

Prior to joining HandsOn Central Ohio, she served as deputy director of the Ohio Department of Youth Services, Correctional Services Division, where she managed seven juvenile parole offices and ten juvenile institutions.

She holds a bachelor of science in political science from Miami University and pursued graduate studies at Xavier University.

A. Elizabeth (Beth) Eck, JD: Educating Professionals, Mobilizing Volunteers

Beth Eck is the vice president of training and volunteer services with HandsOn Central Ohio, the central Ohio affiliate member of the HandsOn Network. Ms. Eck's department mobilizes community volunteers and promotes specialized volunteer recruitment efforts as well as building the capacity of the nonprofit community by training community members and professionals in nonprofit and volunteer management, nonprofit legal issues related to volunteerism and board development.

For the past seven years Beth has been the lead volunteer center coordinator for central and southern Ohio promoting the development of local Citizen Corps Councils and providing training for engaging spontaneous volunteer during a disaster. Locally, she has provided training for the Ohio Crime Prevention Association, The Ohio State University Office of Continuing Education, Otterbein College, Columbus BIZWOMEN, the Ohio Emergency Management Agency and the United Way of Central Ohio. She regularly conducts training sessions at national conferences and is an international lecturer, traveling to Japan, Korea, Chile, Spain, Canada and Slovenia.

Beth has been an active volunteer on a number of nonprofit boards including the Mentoring Center of Central Ohio, Columbus Landmarks Foundation, Elder Choices of Central Ohio, Junior League of Columbus and is an active committee member with the United Way of Central Ohio.

Beth received her law degree from Capital University Law School and was previously the legal services director with the state of Ohio's Department on Aging. She chaired the elder law committee of the Ohio State Bar Association and was co-author of Legal Issues for Older Ohioans. For several years before coming to HandsOn Central Ohio, she was active in the private practice of law.
